Our Break on the the Lake!

When we moved east from the Midwest, we realized everyone goes to "the shore" for vacation. So, we packed up the kids and headed to the Jersey shore. Who doesn't like the beach, right?  Well, actually me, sort of...  Why? Wall to wall people, long lines for restaurants, scary things in the water, such as jellyfish, sharks, crabs under the sand, etc.I love the sound of the ocean and the sight of it, but here's why I prefer a lake.

It's very peaceful with fewer people, the water seems cleaner, no salt to burn your eyes, no scary fish that bite, ducks, loons and Eagles to watch, and I enjoy looking out at the blue water especially when it's smooth as glass in the early morning and evening. I love hearing the sound of the small waves lapping on the land, and the sound of the boats moving up and down next to the docks along the lake.

I don't have a need for speed, so I prefer a pontoon boat, because when it's docked, it becomes an outdoor room to hang out on anytime of the day. When you want to go out on the lake, it's relaxing and you can fit the whole family on it and have a good conversation or fish if you want. There's room to walk around, serve a meal on it, watch fireworks, or just put the anchor down and just float for awhile. That's total relaxation!  We have a couple of Seadoo's for tubing, waterskiing or anyone needing to go fast! I only go on the Seadoo if Mark's driving. Smiley Happy

We can eat on the deck looking at the lake or start a fire in the fire pit and roast hotdogs and make s'mores if it's a cool evening. So being at the lake is my favorite place to be for the relaxation and the family time, but I'm sure part of my love of the lake is because that's how I grew up in MN, land of 10,000 lakes.

It's familiar, and it reminds me of 'home' with my parents. For many of you, maybe you've never been to a lake, so I just wanted to share with you why you may want to try it someday!

Tell me in the comments below, which do you prefer: lake or ocean?
